Effects of Single Parent Families
The effects of single parent families are usually termed negatively. “Single parent” has become a bad word in many contexts and is used disparagingly instead of descriptively. However, people who do so don’t often understand what leads to single parent families and have no sympathy for the difficulty involved. Regardless of why you’re a single parent, you need to do your best for your children even though it may be a very difficult task and require very large efforts on your part that originally would have been taken care of by two people. Even though it may be difficult now, the pay off of understanding the difficulties in these families is a better life for your children.
When most people think of single parents they think of a parent who isn’t around as much. This is simply because as a parent you still have to work and you don’t have someone else there to be with your children while you work. The negative image of this is children who lack authority figures and run around freely with little or no restraint. However, many parents find help watching their children with the support of other family members. This is a great chance to build respect in your children for family and get to know other people within that may have only been met on holidays.
Another negative perception is that single parents do not have the energy to adequately parent their children because they are doing the work of two people as one. This can of course be true on certain days. The effect is that children often don’t get the attention they need and are left unsupported. As a parent though, these negative effects don’t have to be the case for you. To prevent this trouble, organize your own life as best as possible to maximize the energy you can give to your kids. Of course, some days you will be burnt out, however this doesn’t have to be everyday.
Finally, consider the effects on you the parent. The workload and the sense of going it alone can be very difficult and hard on you as well. As mentioned above, the best way to create a healthy life for yourself is to organize your life as effectively as possible to reduce energy expense and to make everything flow smoothly. Still you may need extra help, much of which can be found online or elsewhere with other parents who are going through the same thing. These groups will let you ask advice and gain support for a thoroughly difficult but immensely rewarding task.
